The Issuna Riverbank area originally transformed into a recreational haven in 2007 by the Paro Dzongkhag Administration Forestry Sector, this park was created in celebration of the 100th year of Monarchy and the Coronation of the 5th Druk Gyalpo. A decade later, on December 13, 2017, the park was entrusted to Green Bhutan Corporation Limited (GBCL), marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter for this cherished space.

Conveniently located near the Thimphu-Paro highway, the park offers an ideal spot for family gatherings and camping during weekends and public holidays. It also serves as an educational site for students during their vacations, providing them with opportunities to learn about conservation, land reclamation, and the importance of reducing forest picnicking a major cause of wildfires. These initiatives support both environmental conservation and the socio-economic development of Bhutan.

GBCL is committed to elevating Issuna Recreational Park into a flagship destination for recreation and environmental stewardship. This year, we are proud to announce the launch of a comprehensive 5-Year Park Master Plan, developed through a collaborative workshop with stakeholders and experts.

The Master Plan envisions a park that is more inclusive, offering enhanced facilities for people of all abilities, and introducing a range of attractions to broaden the visitor experience. With these developments, Issuna Recreational Park will continue to uphold its mission of promoting well-being, fostering education, and nurturing environmental harmony.
